About Taekwondo

Taekwondo (태권도, 跆拳道) is a Korean form of martial arts, and the origins can be traced back to 1944. This martial arts discipline was originally known as Taekkyon, but received its modern name in 1955.
Taekwondo roughly translates as “way of striking with hand and foot”, and this name was adopted because it more closely described the techniques used, that is kicks and strikes with both hands and feet.
About Lion Park’s Tae Kwon Do

Grandmaster Park (관장 박병훈) holds a Kukkiwon-recognised 9th dan black belt in WT taekwondo. He is a first-generation practitioner of Song Moo Kwan (송무관) taekwondo, having studied under Supreme Grandmaster Ro, the school’s founding father and original grandmaster.
Following a distinguished career in South Korea, Thailand and the United States, he moved to Sydney, Australia, where he has been operating Lion Park’s Tae Kwon Do Academy (라이은 박 태권도 도장) at a variety of locations for nearly 40 years.
All of our instructors have been personally trained by the grandmaster and hold a Kukkiwon-certified instructor-grade black belt (4th-7th dan).
Values and Benefits of Song Moo Kwan Taekwondo

The symbol of Song Moo Kwan is the pine tree (song, 송, 松), which remains evergreen and youthful, firmly anchored by strong roots, capable of withstanding storms and other challenges.
In addition to learning traditional taekwondo techniques, forms, sparring methods and self defence, students are encouraged to develop and maintain physical flexibility, gain confidence and discipline, and learn leadership and responsibility. Instructors work collaboratively with students to develop strength of body, mind and spirit.

Our classes are suitable for students of all ages and skill levels, and all venues maintain COVIDsafe training plans in compliance with NSW Health safety directives.
